Riders Advance Despite Loss
The Roughrider baseball team only managed one run in two games against #1 ranked Central Arizona College in the NJCAA Region I Division I Playoffs, losing Friday 1-0 in Casa Grande. Despite the loss, Yavapai advances to the NJCAA Western District Division I Playoffs next weekend with the winner advancing to the NJCAA College World Series.
Andrew Walter was the hard luck loser in Friday’s game giving up the lone run in the second inning. The sophomore from Peoria scattered six hits and struck out six.
Offensively, YC only managed eight hits with Nolan Clark and Albert Alvarez collecting two hits each. This was only the third time all season that the Roughriders were shutout and it is the lowest two-game run total of the year.
As the Region I runners-up, Yavapai will play the Region 9 champions (Otero Community College or Lamar Community College), yet to be determined, in the first round of the district playoffs. Central Arizona will be the host school and will entertain the Region 18 champion, Salt Lake City Community College. The first games will be played on Thursday in Casa Grande with times yet to be announced.
