Roughriders Cruise To Victories

In what could possibly be a preview of a NJCAA Region I Division I playoff matchup, the top ranked Roughrider softball team crushed the visiting Vaqueros from #18 Central Arizona College Thursday afternoon at Bill Vallely Field, 11-6 and 19-2. Yavapai improves their unearthly record to 56-3 overall and 44-2 in league play.

In the opener, YC battled back from an early two-run deficit to coast to 37th win in the last 38 attempts. Estela Pinon got the victory throwing six innings and striking out five batters. Additionally, Pinon crushed three-run homer to straightaway centerfield and later had an RBI single to aid her cause. Alex Landon was 3 for 4 with two runs scored. Vanessa House was 2 for 5 with a dinger in the 4th inning driving in three runs. Sierra Rodriguez, Kirsten Lambertson and Carli Schiller each had two hits.

In the nightcap, the Roughrider offense had the most run output of the year with four batters knocking in at least three RBI’s or more in the game. Rodriguez was 2 for 2 with a double and 4 ribbies. Alex Landon was 3 for 3 with a double and 4 runs batted in. Pinon was 3 for 4 with three runs knocked in and Ashleigh Seipel was 3 for 4 with a home run and 3 RBI’s.

Amelia Willadsen got the victory from the circle pitching three innings and striking out three. Christina Hagberg pitched two scoreless innings in relief recording 1 strikeout.

Yavapai concludes the regular season on Saturday, April 30th at GateWay Community College. Game time will be at 12:00 PM. Yavapai opens up regional play on Friday, May 6th against an opponent yet to be determined. The first pitch for that game will be thrown at 12:30 PM. This year’s regional tournament will be held at Bill Vallely Field in Prescott.
