Streak Ends For Softball
In a possible NJCAA Region I Division I Playoff matchup, the top ranked Roughrider softball team split a doubleheader against #10 Pima Community College (47-12, 37-9) Tuesday afternoon at Bill Vallely Field. Pima cruised to a victory in the first game winning 7-1 and YC crushed the Aztecs in the nightcap, 15-7. The loss puts a halt to Yavapai’s winning streak at 36 games. YC is now 54-3 overall and 42-2 in league action.
The high scoring Roughrider offense went stagnant in the first game with Brittany Keiser scoring the lone run. Sierra Rodriguez was 2 for 3 driving in the single score.
Estela Pinon suffered only her second loss of the year as she threw all seven innings allowing eleven hits and striking out three.
Pinon turned around in the late game to throw 2.1 innings of scoreless ball to record her 23rd victory of the season. The freshman from Tucson came on in relief of starter Alex Landon who gave up all 7 runs in the first two innings. Amelia Willadsen got the save pitching 1.2 innings, with 0 walks, 2 strike outs, 2 hits and 0 runs allowed.
Rodriguez was 4 for 4 with a double, a home run, five runs scored and three RBI’s. Landon was 4 for 5 with three doubles, 2 runs scored and 3 ribbies. Pinon knocked a three-run home run. Ashleigh Seipel was 2 for 3 with a homer and two runs batted in and Willadsen hit a solo home run.
On Thursday, YC will play host to #18 Central Arizona College in a makeup up game from earlier in the season. The twinbill will start at 12:00 PM. YC swept a doubleheader from the Vaqueros in Coolidge in February, 7-4 and 9-3. Both teams could possibly face each other in the regional playoffs that start on May 6th in Prescott.
