Baseball Splits On Road

The Roughrider baseball team split a road doubleheader Tuesday afternoon against Phoenix College. Yavapai won the first game 7-1 and dropped the second game 5-2. Yavapai is now 33-21 overall and 21-15 in ACCAC action.

In the first game, Andrew Walter threw six strong innings to earn his 5th victory of the year. The sophomore from Cactus High School scattered six hits and struck out 7.

Offensively, Josh Anderson was 3 for 4 with two RBI’s and Nolan Clark was 2 for 3 with two ribbies.

In the late game, the Roughrider bats could only manage six hits with Ethan Leiter getting three and Tony Piazza knocking two. Piazza also drove in the only runs YC scored.

Zak Miller gave up all five runs for only his second loss of the year.

YC concludes the regular season at Glendale Community College on Saturday, April 30th. The first pitch will be at 12:00 PM.

As a result of the split coupled with a South Mountain CC victory over Glendale CC Tuesday afternoon, YC will finish in third place and will play the first round of the NJCAA Region I Division I playoffs at South Mountain beginning Thursday, May 5th.
