Softball Clinches Home Berth
The top ranked Roughrider softball team clinched a home playoff spot with a doubleheader sweep of Arizona Western College Saturday afternoon at Bill Vallely Field, 17-4 and 6-2. Yavapai is now an unparalleled 53-2 overall and 41-1 in league action. Arizona Western falls to 31-23 on the year and 25-19 in the league standings. With the victories, the Roughriders extend their winning streak to 36 games.
In the first game, Estela Pinon got her 22nd victory of the year and Amelia Willadsen threw her 8th save of the season as the Roughriders scored their second highest amount of runs on the year (18 against Community College of Southern Nevada). Danielle Muniz was a perfect 4 for 4 with a home run, a double, two runs scored and three RBI’s. Vanessa House was 3 for 4 with a home run, three runs scored and three runs batted in and Miraya Montiel was 2 for 2 with a home run and two runs knocked in.
In the late game, Willadsen pitched her way to her league leading 28th win of the year. Muniz hit her 2nd homer of the day and Ashleigh Siepel also knocked a home run. Alex Landon was a perfect 3 for 3 with three RBI’s and Pinon was 2 for 3 with a run knocked in.
In what could possibly be a preview of the NJCAA Region I Title game, Yavapai plays host to Pima Community College (46-11, 36-8) on Tuesday, April 26th. Yavapai swept a doubleheader in Tucson earlier in the season, 5-4 and 7-3. The twinbill begins at 12:00 PM.
