From Roughrider To Jackrabbit

YC softball player, Alex Landon, has signed a NCAA National Letter of Intent to play for the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits, a member of the The Summit League, an NCAA Division I conference. In the Fall, the sophomore first baseman/pitcher will enroll in the nursing program at SDSU while completing her eligibility.

Landon has enjoyed success as a batter and a pitcher while at Yavapai College. As a freshman, Landon hit .338 with 2 home runs, 12 doubles, 20 runs scored and 29 runs batted in. As a pitcher, the Scottsdale native won 20 games and struck out 82 batters.

This season, Landon is hitting .425 with 9 home runs, 11 doubles and 44 RBI’s. She also has 2-0 record from the mound with a 2.21 ERA.

Head Coach Stacy Iveson commented, “Alex has been a huge part of our success over the past two years. She is a great hitter and has come up clutch for us this season. Alex is a tough kid. I love her mentality. I know she will do very well at SDSU.”

Landon and the #1 ranked Roughriders take their league leading 35-1 record against Chandler/Gilbert Community College on Saturday, April 16th in a doubleheader at Bill Vallely Field. The first pitch will be thrown at 12:00 PM.
