Softball Sweeps Thunderbirds
The top ranked Roughrider softball team swept a conference doubleheader over Mesa Community College (29-15, 15-11) Saturday afternoon at Bill Vallely Field, 9-1 and 10-2. The victories are the 21st and 22nd consecutive for the lady hitters. YC improves to 39-2 overall and 27-1 in league action.
In the first game, Estela Pinon (16-1) pitched all five innings striking out seven and walking three. Vanessa House, Danielle Muniz and Brittany Keiser all collected two hits a piece. Emily Cooper had one hit, a grand slam, her first home run of the year.
In the late game, Amelia Willadsen threw all six innings for her league leading 19th victory of the season. Sierra Rodriguez was 3 for 4 with a triple and a home run, two runs scored and three RBI’s. Muniz was 2 for 3 with a run scored. Pinon was 1 for 4 with a home run and three runs batted in. Ashleigh Siepl and Miraya Montiel were each 2 for 3.
YC entertains Scottsdale Community College on Tuesday, March 29th. YC pounded the Artichokes in a February doubleheader sweep in Scottsdale, 16-0 and 6-1. Tuesday’s twinbill will start at 12:00 PM.
