Baseball Splits With Coyotes
The #19 ranked Roughrider baseball team split a conference road doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Chandler/Gilbert Community College (10-15, 7-11). YC lost the first game 6-5 and shutout the Coyotes in the nightcap, 6-0. Yavapai is now 25-11 overall and 13-5 in league play.
In the early game, Alex Miranda (2-3) took the loss giving up six earned runs all in the first three innings. The Coyotes posted four runs in the bottom of the 1st innings and single runs in the second and third. Yavapai cut the deficit in half in the third inning and added one in the fourth and seventh but the scoring stopped there.
Offensively, Nolan Clark, Kenneth Gallegos and Ashton McCoy were 2 for 4 each.
In the late game, Tony Vocca (7-1) threw a two-hit complete game shutout for his league leading seventh victory of the year.
From the plate, Jordan Negrini was 3 for 3 with a double and Clark was 2 for 4 with two runs batted in.
Yavapai plays host to NJCAA Division II #5 ranked Paradise Valley Community College (23-9, 11-5) on Tuesday, March 29th. This will be the first meeting of the year for these two teams. The first pitch of the twinbill will be thrown at 12:00 PM.
