Baseball Splits Road Contest

The Roughrider baseball team split an ACCAC road doubleheader Saturday afternoon with Mesa Community College (20-7, 8-7). Mesa won the first game 3-0 and in dramatic fashion, YC won the second game 8-6. Yavapai is now 19-9 overall and 10-4 in conference action.

For the first time this season, the Rider offense was held scoreless mustering only three hits in the game.

Andrew Walter (2-2) was the pitcher of record. The 6’4″ right-hander allowed the three earned runs, walked six and struck out four opponent batters.

In the nightcap, the Roughriders scored two runs in their half of the 10th inning to earn the split on the day.

The offense woke up in the late game pounding out twelve hits led by Kenneth Gallegos and Albert Alvarez with three hits a piece. Gallegos knocked a home run, his first of the year, and had three RBI’s.

Miguel Silva (1-1) pitched the final two innings of the game to get the victory.

Yavapai returns to Roughrider Park on Monday, March 14th hosting Colorado State University Club Team. The twinbill will start at 12:00 PM.
