Baseball Beats ‘Chokes
The Roughrider baseball team had 14 hits Tuesday afternoon in a 9-5 victory over Scottsdale Community College (11-10, 5-6) in Scottsdale. YC is now 17-8 overall and 8-3 in ACCAC action.
Tony Vocca (5-1) pitched a solid 6.2 innings for his fifth victory of the year scattering four hits and striking out seven opponent batters.
Offensively, YC scored two runs in their half of the second inning to take an early lead. The Riders posted five runs on the board before Scottsdale pushed three runs across the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning. Yavapai erupted for four runs in the top of the eighth inning and Scottsdale scored two times in the bottom of the ninth before Andrew Walter came in to put the fire out.
Jonathan Rodriguez was 3 for 5 with a triple and an RBI. Tony Piazza, Ethan Leiter, Ashton McCoy and Albert Alvarez each had two hits a piece. McCoy knocked in three runs and Leiter had two doubles.
Both teams square off again on Wednesday, March 9th at Roughrider Park in Prescott. The single game will begin at 2:30 PM.
