Program Closes With Loss

The Lady Rider basketball season came to abrupt halt Wednesday night in Yuma with a 66-47 loss to #7 Arizona Western College in the first round of the NJCAA Region I Division I Playoffs. Yavapai concludes their season with a 20-11 overall record.

YC shot a dismal 30% from the field Wednesday night and was outrebounding 54-34. Kayla Williams led the Riders with 14 points and Veronica Celaya added 13.

Yavapai trailed at halftime 30-17 and closed the gap to 10 with 6 minutes remaining. However, Western proved to be too strong and Yavapai wavered in the end.

The game was the final game for the women’s basketball program after being eliminated due to budget cuts. In the thirty-four year history of the program, YC had a 713-282 record and 26 consecutive trips to the NJCAA Regional Playoffs. Head Coach Brad Clifford concludes his 15-year stint at the helm with a 323-143 overall record, the most wins for a Yavapai College women’s basketball coach.
