Riders Split With Aztecs

The Roughrider baseball team split a conference road doubleheader Tuesday afternoon in Tucson against league leading Pima Community College (12-7, 7-3). The Aztecs pounded the YC in the first game 11-1 and the Riders bounced back in the nightcap with a 5-3 victory. Yavapai is now 14-8 overall and 5-3 in ACCAC play.

YC could only muster one run on five hits on the day. Tony Piazza had two of those hits. Tony Vocca (4-1) got his first loss of the year giving up 5 runs on four hits in 1 1/3 innings pitched.

Alex Miranda (1-2) pitched a gem scattering 5 hits and striking out five and Miguel Silva shut the door for his 8th save of the season. Offensively, Yavapai scored five runs on seven hits. Piazza, Nolan Clark and Kevin Gallegos each had two hits apiece.

YC returns to the diamond on Friday and Saturday in Thatcher against Eastern Arizona College. Yavapai returns to Roughrider Park on Wednesday, March 9th hosting Scottsdale Community College.
