Baseball Wins Series Opener
The Roughrider baseball team opened a two-game series at Arizona Western College with a victory, 4-2. YC is now 12-7 overall and 3-2 in ACCAC action.
Andrew Walter pitched six strong innings to get the victory. The sophomore right-hander scattered six hits and struck out six batters. Miguel Silva struck out the side in the ninth to get his sixth save.
Finding themselves down 1-0 in the top of the fifth, YC put a rally together to knot the score at one. Yavapai added a run in the sixth to take the lead, but the Matadors answered with a run in their half of the inning. Yavapai concluded the scoring on the day with 2 runs in the top of the seventh to break the tie and gain the victory.
Both teams will tangle again on Saturday. The Roughriders remain on the road next Tuesday as they travel to Tucson to play the Aztecs from Pima Community College. YC will not return to the friendly confines until Wednesday March 9th to host Scottsdale Community College in a single game.
