Baseball Finishes Sweep
The Roughrider baseball team completed a two-day sweep over Arizona Western College Saturday afternoon in Yuma, 4-3. Yavapai is now 13-7 overall and 4-2 in conference play. The Matadors fall to 6-10 on the season and have a 2-4 league mark.
YC began the scoring early in the first inning with 2 runs and added another run in their half of the fifth. In the seventh, Western got on the board with two runs to close the margin to one. Yavapai pushed a run over in top of the ninth. The Matadors put together a last attempt in the bottom of the ninth with one run, but Miguel Silva shut the door to record his seventh save of the year. Zak Miller pitched 6 1/3 innings to record his second win of the season. He scattered six hits and struck out 6 opponent batters.
Offensively, Josh Anderson was a perfect 4 for 4. Nolan Clark was 3 for 5. Jonathan Rodriguez hit a home run.
Yavapai travels to Tucson on Tuesday, March 1st to play a doubleheader with Pima Community College. The first pitch will be at 12:00 PM.
