Softball Signs Ten

Head softball coach Stacy Iveson has announced the signing of nine recruits for the 2012 season. At the end of this season, YC will lose eight sophomores to graduation. “I am very excited about the talent and experience in our 2011 signing class”, said Iveson.

Natalie Sanchez-RHP/utility infielder from Whittier, CA. “Sanchez is a tremendous athlete that hits for power, has a strong arm and good range in the infield and is also a very good pitcher. The Californian plays for one of the top high school programs in California (Bishop Amat HS). She will arrive at YC with a wealth of playing experience at the highest level.”

Alejandra Ortiz-Catcher/first base from Tucson, AZ. “Ortiz is a solid defensive catcher with excellent power hitting from the right side of the plate. She is a hard worker and a good student and will fit in well here at Yavapai.”

Samantha Wilson-Utility infielder from Hesperia, CA. “Wilson is is a strong hitter and can play any position in the infield. She joins YC from her ASA club team Nor Cal Assault where former and current Roughriders Shaunte Duarte (’08) and Kirsten Lambertson (09-10) also played for coach Kurt Ludwigsen.”

Kasey Oliver-Infielder from Chatham, IL. “Oliver is a very strong and athletic player. She hits for power and is an excellent middle infielder with very good range.”

Taylor Riesgo-Outfielder from Tucson, AZ. “Riesgo will bring speed to the team as a left handed slap hitter. She is also a very good defensive outfielder who covers a lot of ground.”

Alma Cortez-Outfielder from Whittier, CA. “Cortez is a natural lefty with excellent outfield mechanics. She can hit for average and power. With her speed and athleticism, Alma will help replenish YC’s graduating class of All American outfielders. She is also the high school teammate of signee Natalie Sanchez from Bishop Amat High School.”

Aleena Avalos-Infielder from San Dimas, CA. “Avalos is a very athletic infielder with excellent defensive instincts. She is a solid hitter with a very aggressive baserunning style that will fit in well with our offense here at YC.”

Brandi Heimburg-Outfielder from Phoenix, AZ. “Heimburg is a natural lefthanded outfielder with excellent power at the plate. Brandi will be the 5th player to join the Roughriders from the nationally ranked Arizona Killer Bees ASA program coached by Mike Grimaldi. Other bees include: Amelia Willadsen, Ashleigh Seipel, Sierra Rodriguez and Alexis Lawton.”

Brittany Van Zee-Outfielder from Bagdad, AZ. “Van Zee is a very fast switch hitting outfielder. Her speed will help keep Yavapai one of the top offenses in the country.

Sarah Thompson-RHP/infielder from Prescott, AZ. “Thompson is a very strong pitcher and utility infielder. Sarah hits for power from the right side of the plate. “
