Wildcats Claw Roughriders

The #15 Roughrider baseball team dropped a doubleheader Friday afternoon to the visiting Wildcats from #19 Western Nevada College (6-4), 6-1 and 4-3. Yavapai is now 6-2 on the young season.

In the opener, Western Nevada pitcher Chris Garrison held YC to five hits and one run on seven innings pitched. Andrew Walter took the loss surrendering seven hits (3 home runs) and five runs while striking out three. Offensively, Nolan Clark and Jonathan Rodriguez each was 2 for 2 with Rodriguez collecting the lone run batted in.

In the second game, Yavapai put three runs on the board in their half of the third only to be held scoreless the remainder of the way. The opponents scored one run in the fifth and sixth innings and got the game winners in the top of the seventh. Kenneth Giles took the loss from the mound. Josh Anderson, Tony Piazza and Rodriguez each had a hit and an RBI.

Yavapai opens up conference action on Tuesday, February 15th at Roughrider Park against Cochise College. The doubleheader will begin at 12:00 PM.
