Softball Shuts Out T-Birds

The #2 ranked Roughrider softball team allowed no runs Tuesday afternoon en route to a doubleheader sweep over Mesa Community College, 11-0 and 7-0 to improve their record to 11-1 overall and 3-1 in the ACCAC standings. Mesa falls to 3-3 overall and 3-3 in league play.

In the first game, Estela Pinon threw a complete game for the win. The freshman from Tucson allowed 5 hits and struck out 8 opponent batters. From the plate, Kirsten Lambertson was a perfect 1 for 1, a home run, with four runs batted in. Sierra Rodriguez was 1 for 2 with a double and three RBI’s. Vanessa House and Miraya Montiel were both 1 for 2 with a run scored and a run knocked in.

In the nightcap, Amelia Willadsen struck out 6 and surrendered 5 hits to garner the victory. Danielle Muniz was huge from the dish going 4 for 5 with a home run and four runs batted in. Lambertson stayed hot with 2 hits including a home run and 2 RBI’s. House was perfect from the plate, 3 for 3, with two runs scored. Rodriguez was 1 for 2 with two runs scored and plated one run.

YC continues their road games on Saturday, February 12th at Scottsdale Community College (0-4). The doubleheader will start at 12:00 PM.
