Willadsen Throws Riders To Victories

The #2 ranked Roughrider softball team remained unbeaten in day 2 of the Las Vegas Tournament behind the arm of Amelia Willadsen who got all three wins on the day.

In the opener, YC crushed the host team College of Southern Nevada, 18-1. The Roughriders got the long ball from Danielle Muniz, Kirsten Lambertson, Alex Landon and Willadsen.

Against Salt Lake City Community College, Estela Pinon started the game from the circle and went 4 innings. She gave up one run. Willadsen came in in the 5th inning. YC took the lead in the seventh on RBI doubles from Vanessa House and Pinon to secure the victory, 2-1.

In the nightcap versus Chattanooga, Willadsen started and went 4 innings. Pinon pitched the 5th inning and Alex Landon threw the 6th and 7th giving up both opponent runs. Pinon had an RBI double and Miraya Montiel had an RBI triple in the 5-2 victory.

Said head coach Stacy Iveson, “I am proud of our defensive efforts today. Mel and Estela did a great job of complementing each other on the mound and they got tremendous support from their defense. We hit the ball well today and got some great at bats from players coming off the bench, Carli Schiller and Alexis Lawton in particular.”

YC concludes tourney play on Sunday against North Idaho College and Chipola College.
