Golden Weekend For Softballers

The #2 ranked Roughrider softball team finished the weekend undefeated by beating North Idaho College, 8-5 and Chipola College, 1-0 on Sunday. Yavapai is now 8-0 on the young season and opens conference action on Tuesday.

In Sunday’s opener, Alex Landon got the victory from the circle and Amelia Willadsen got the save. Offensively, Willadsen hit her second home run of the tournament and Kirsten Lambertson knocked her third home run of the weekend.

In the nightcap, Willadsen won her sixth game of the tournament. The freshman from Mesa did not allow a single run over the weekend including the shutout on Sunday. Yavapai’s lone run came on three singles by Danielle Muniz, Estela Pinon and Alex Landon.

“We had great pitching and great defense in all games and I am excited to start the conference season on Tuesday”, said head coach Stacy Iveson.

YC plays Phoenix College on Tuesday, February 1st in Phoenix. The twin bill will start at 2:00 PM.
