Softball Opens Season 3-0

On the day that they grabbed the #2 NJCAA pre-season national ranking, the Roughrider softball team did not disappoint as they won three games at the Las Vegas Invitational Friday.

In the opener, Christina Hagberg pitched 4 innings to get the victory over Colorado Northwestern Community College, 14-2. Alex Landon finished out the game from the circle to record the save. Estela Pinon and Kirsten Lambertson both hit home runs to lead the offense.

In the second game of the day, YC blanked El Paso Community College, 8-0. Amelia Willadsen threw 5 innings to get the victory and Landon picked up her second save of the day throwing the final inning. Ashleigh Seipel went deep to provide the pop for the Roughriders.

In the final game of the day, Yavapai beat College of Southern Idaho, 3-0. Estela Pinon pitched a complete game for the victory striking out 11 and giving up 3 hits. Miraya Montiel hit a 2 – run homer for the offense.

“I was very pleased with our results today”, said Head Coach Stacy Iveson. “We played good defense and hit the ball well at times. I was also very happy with our pitchers’ efforts today.”

YC resumes tourney play tomorrow, Saturday, January 29th facing the host team College of Southern Nevada, Salt Lake City Community College and Chattanooga Community College. The tournament will conclude on Sunday with the Riders facing Chipola College, FL and North Idaho College.
