Former YC Soccer Player Selected MLS 1st Round
Former Yavapai College soccer player Justin Meram was selected in the first round, 15th overall pick, by the Columbus Crew in the Major League Soccer Super Draft held today in Baltimore. Meram led the Roughriders to consecutive National Championships in 2007 and 2008, including Yavapai’s perfect 26-0-0 season in his sophomore year. He is Yavapai’s all-time points leader (132), games played (52), games started (52) and is second all-time in goals scored (51) and assists (30). Meram played the past two seasons for the University of Michigan, leading the Big Ten school to the College Cup (Final Four) in his senior season while scoring in all-post season matches for the Wolverines. He becomes the seventh former Roughrider in Major League Soccer. Last year, former Roughrider Irving Garcia was drafted by the New York Red Bulls.
