Riders Split Home Openers

Friday night the Roughrider basketball team got their first win of the season, 104-100 over the visiting Arizona College Prep in the opening game of the Tip-Off Classic. Dominique Brooks led the squad with 19 points, 4 rebounds and 8 assists. Dionte Goodlett had 15 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. David Hall also had 15 points and 9 rebounds. Dominique Carr had a double double with 11 points and 11 rebounds and Gilbert Morales chipped in 10 points with 4 caroms.

On Saturday night, YC fell to the Arizona Legends, a team made up of former NCAA players, 85-82. A back and forth battle throughout the first half, the Roughriders held a 2 point lead (43-41) at intermission. The second half mirrored the first with a total of 7 lead changes and 10 ties. In the end, the hoopsters had a chance to tie it, but the shot rimmed off.

Yavapai Top Performers were JuWan Buchanan with 17 points and 9 rebounds. Jarrett Green had 14 points with 3 rebounds. Jon Hawkins amassed 11 points and 7 assists and Dominique Brooks added 10 points, 4 caroms and 4 assists.

Yavapai is now 1-3 on the young season and begin conference action on Wednesday, November 17th at defending NJCAA Region I Champs Mesa Community College. Tip-off will be at 7:30 PM.
