Soccer Blanks Cougars
The Roughrider soccer team scored four 2nd half goals en route to a 5-0 victory Wednesday afternoon over South Mountain Community College in Phoenix. In 45 meetings between these two teams, Yavapai has never been beaten. YC improves their record to 15-4-0 on the season and the Cougars fall to 1-17-0.
YC held a 1-0 first half lead on a goal by Steven Bagheri assisted by Donovan Rico. In the second half the Roughrider offense erupted beginning in the 48th minute with a goal by Carlos Lara on an assist by Viktor Rodakovic. Three minutes later, Ethan Martin took a pass from Jacob Nevarez and found the goal. In the 78th minute Gregory Efiom scored the first of his two goals on an assist by Dylan Hardie and four minutes later Efiom received a pass from Marcos Garcia to conclude the scoring on the day.
The shutout was the fifth on the season for the seven-time National Champion Roughriders. It was a combined effort by all three YC goalies – Humberto Soriano, Edward Jones and Christopher Foley.
Yavapai concludes the regular season on Saturday, October 23rd at Glendale Community College with kick-off scheduled at 12:00 PM. YC beat the Gauchos earlier in the season at the amphitheater in Prescott Valley, 3-1. The NJCAA Region I play-offs will begin the following week with opponents and sites to be determined following the annual conference meetings on Sunday.
