Soccer Blasts Gateway
The Roughrider soccer team scored four goals in the first half en route to a 6-1 victory over Gateway Community College @ Rose Mofford Park, the site of the 2008 National Championship, the 7th Championship for Yavapai. YC advances its record to 13-4-0 and Gateway falls to 1-15-1.
The scoring began early with Donovan Rico finding the net on a pass from Jared Hanze in the third minute. Matthew Walberer took a pass from Viktor Rodakovic in the 23rd minute to make the score 2-0. The same duo hooked up for the third goal of the match in the 30th minute and Ethan Martin scored on an assist from Steven Bagheri in the 33rd minute to finish the scoring in the first half. In the 55th minute, Bagheri found the net on an assist from Willie Hammack and in the 60th Rico scored his second goal of the game on an assist by Matt Hazzard. Gateway found the net in the 89th minute on a penalty kick to finish the scoring on the night.
Yavapai plays a make-up game with Pima Community College on Monday, October 18th. The match begins at 3:30 at Ken Lindley Field in Prescott. The Riders look to get payback after a 1-0 loss to the Aztecs in Tucson in September.
