Volleyball Splits On Day Two

On day two of the Florida State University at Jacksonville Invitational, the Roughrider volleyball team split a pair of matches. In the first match of the day, YC beat Palm Beach State College 3-1 (21-25, 25-9, 25-14, and 25-14). Haley Shackelford led the team with 24 kills, 20 digs and a hitting percentage of .408. Suzanne Morris had 6 kills and hit .455. Rachel Lindley had 27 assists and 2 aces and in her first start at the libero position, Kenize Shippy had 19 digs.

Later in the day, the lady spikers faced off against the NJCAA DII #3 ranked and 2005 NJCAA DII National Champion Johnson County Community College. YC was overpowered by the Cavaliers 3-0 (22-25, 20-25, and 15-25). On the season, YC is now 4-9 against ranked teams. With the split, Yavapai is now 19-11 overall and remain at 8-5 in conference standings.

On the final day of the tournament Saturday, the Roughriders will play #16 ranked and 2006 NJCAA DI National Champions Iowa Western Community College at 12:00 PM EST.
