Soccer Blanks TBirds
The Roughrider soccer team beat the visiting Thunderbirds from Mesa Community College Thursday night at Ken Lindley Field, 3-0 to improve their record to 12-4-0. Mesa falls to 6-12-0 on the season.
The Roughriders struck early in the contest with Jacob Nevarez hitting the mark on a pass from Steven Bagheri in the 8th minute of the match. The roles reversed twenty-six minutes later with Bagheri finding the net on an assist from Nevarez. The score remained at 2-0 until the 89th minute when Momudu Sluwar scored unassisted. In goal, Humberto Soriano recorded his fourth shutout of the season.
YC returns to the pitch on Saturday, October 16th at Gateway Community College. The match will be played at Rose Mofford Sports Complex in Phoenix. The site is the home of the last Roughrider National Championship in 2008. The team finished that season with a national record of 26 wins, 0 losses and 0 ties. Saturday’s game will begin at 4:30 PM.
Yavapai returns home on Monday, October 18th in a make-up match against Pima Community College. That contest will kick-off at 3:30 PM at Ken Lindley Field in Prescott.
