Volleyball Survives

The Roughrider volleyball team outlasted Phoenix College Monday night in a five-set affair, 3-2 (25-17, 24-26, 25-19, 27-29, 15-6) to snap a four-game losing streak. YC is now 16-8 overall and 6-4 in ACCAC action. PC falls to 9-9 overall and 3-7 in the league standings.

Yavapai was led by Haley Shackelford with 23 kills. Chelsea Szretter and Natasha Ray added 11 kills each. Ray had a nice match defensively with 25 digs and 6 aces. Jessica Durbin chipped in 34 assists and 2 aces.

The Roughriders host league leader Eastern Arizona College (19-4, 8-1) on Wednesday night at Walraven Gym. In their prior meeting in Thatcher, Eastern Arizona beat the lady spikers 3-1. Wednesday night’s match will begin at 7:00PM.
