Soccer Beats First Place Matadors
In a wild game at Ken Lindley Field Saturday night, Yavapai soccer defeated the first place and #8 ranked Arizona Western College Matadors, 2-1. YC improves to 10-3-0 on the season and AWC falls to 10-2-1.
The Roughriders took the early lead at 18 minute mark with a goal by Matt Hazzard assisted by Gregory Efiom. However, a minute later a Yavapai player received a red card forcing YC to play the remainder of the game with only 10 players on the field.
Yavapai clung onto a 1-0 lead going into halftime but the Matadors struck shortly after intermission to knot the match up. However, the tie would not hold up for very long. In the 58th minute Ethan Martin took a pass from Jonathan Flores and found the back of the net from 30 yards out for the eventual game winner.
