Soccer Stays Undefeated In PV

The Roughrider soccer team finished the first round of ACCAC play Saturday night with a 3-1 victory over the visiting Gauchos from Glendale Community College. Yavapai is now 7-3-0 in the ACCAC race and Glendale falls to 2-7-2. The victory is the 33rd straight (33-0-0) at the amphitheater in Prescott Valley.

YC got on the scoreboard early with a goal by Donovan Rico assisted by Viktor Rodakovic in the 3rd minute of the game. Glendale fired back with a goal in the 12th minute. Right before halftime, Yavapai scored the eventual game winner with a goal by Matthew Walberer on an assist from Carlos Lara.

The score remained at 2-1 until the waning minutes of the match. YC fended off desperate shots on goal from the opponent before Lara found the net unassisted at 89:08 to put the lid on the victory.

The Roughriders begin the second half of the ACCAC season with an afternoon road match on Monday, September 27th at Paradise Valley Community College (1-5-0). YC beat the Pumas in the first contest of the season at Ken Lindley Field, 3-1. Monday’s match will start at 1:00 PM.
