VB Opens Tourney With Split

The Roughrider volleyball team opened up the Wyo-Braska Shootout Thursday afternoon in Scottsbluff, Nebraska with a split in the two contests played.

In the first match, YC beat Casper College, WY for only the second time in this decade (2-6). The final score was 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-21). Haley Shackelford led the Riders with 17 kills. Jessica Durbin had 17 assists and Rachel Lindley had 16 assists and 2 aces. Sam Eastburn contributed 19 digs.

In the final match of the day, the lady spikers faced #9 ranked Laramie County Community College. Yavapai fell in three sets, 10-25, 20-25, 16-25. Shackelford was the lone bright spot for the home team with 6 kills, 1 ace and 10 digs.

Yavapai is now 14-2 overall and remains at 5-1 in conference. The Roughriders will resume tournament play on Friday with three matches: Sheridan College, WY; Western Nebraska Community College; and Eastern Wyoming Community College.
