The Roughrider soccer team scored eight goals in 47 minutes Wednesday night at Ken Lindley Field in a victory over South Mountain Community College, 8-0. Yavapai improves their overall record to 6-3-0 and the hapless Cougars fall to 1-9-0.
Jacob Nevarez scored the first two goals of the game (26th and 27th minute) on assists by Matthew Walberer and Dylan Hardie that spotted the Roughriders a 2-0 lead going into halftime. Yavapai quickly extended the lead after intermission on a goal in the 48th minute by Carlos Lara assisted by Jose Medina. In the 60th minute, Marcos Garcia took a pass from Viktor Rodakovic and netted the ball and 20 seconds later Medina found the goal on a pass from Lara. In the 62nd minute, Medina got his second goal with an assist from Josh Sylva. Gregory Efiom found the back of the net on Hardie’s second assist of the match in the 71st minute and Matt Hazzard finished the scoring in the 73rd minute on an assist from Nevarez.
Yavapai returns to the pitch on Saturday, September 25th entertaining Glendale Community College. In two meetings last season the Roughriders won both matches 2-0 and 10-3. The contest will be played at the amphitheater in Prescott Valley where the Roughriders are 32-0-0 all-time. Kick-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
