Riders Have Offensive Outburst
The Roughrider soccer team scored five unanswered goals in a 6-1 victory Saturday night at Ken Lindley Field over Gateway Community College. The six goals are the most YC has scored in a match this season with six different players finding the back of the net. The Roughriders improve to 5-3-0 and Gateway remains winless at 0-7-1.
The scoring began early for the Riders with Donovan Rico finding the net on a pass from Viktor Rodakovic in the third minute of the game. Gateway knotted the match in the 21st minute but YC took the lead for good in the 35th minute when Matthew Walberer found a streaking Jose Medina for the start of five unanswered scores for the Riders. However, when the first half ended, Yavapai clung to a 2-1 lead.
After intermission, Jonathan Flores took the suspense out of the match as he found the net assisted by Carlos Lara in the 58th minute. In the 61st minute, Jared Hanze scored a goal on Rodakovic’s second assist of the match. Ethan Martin got in scorebook in the 76th minute on Walberer’s second assist and in the 80th minute, Jacob Nevarez finished out the scoring assisted by Gregory Efiom.
Yavapai continues the homestand playing host to South Mountain Community College (1-7-1) on Wednesday, September 22nd at Ken Lindley Field in Prescott. In two meetings a year ago, YC scored 17 goals against the Cougars winning 7-0 and 10-1. The match will kick-off at 6:00 PM.
