Soccer Shoots Down Tbirds
The Roughrider soccer team got a solid road victory Wednesday afternoon over Mesa Community College, 3-2 to improve their overall and league record to 4-3-0. Mesa falls to 3-5-0. It took some last minute heroics to secure the victory for the Roughriders and get their 38th victory in 43 tries against the Thunderbirds.
Yavapai jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half with a goal in the 27th minute by Viktor Rodakovic assisted by Marcos Garcia. Garcia got an unassisted goal in the 42nd minute to propel the Roughriders into halftime with a two-point margin. However, Mesa stormed back after intermission with a untouched corner kick goal in the 56th minute and again in the 81st minute to knot the game at two. In the 89th minute, Rodakovic took a long throw in from Adam Crossingham and found the net for his second goal of the match and the game winner.
Yavapai begins a three-game homestand on Saturday, September 18th against Gateway Community College. YC crushed the Geckos in two meetings last season not allowing a goal. The Roughriders won 4-0 and 5-0. Saturday night’s match will begin at 6:00 PM and be played at Ken Lindley Field in Prescott.
