The University of Hawaii softball team (49-14, 19-1 WAC) is headed to the Women’s College World Series for the first time in school history after defeating the University of Alabama, 5-4 on a three-run home run by former Roughrider softball player Jenna Rodriguez in the bottom of the seventh. Earlier in the game, Rodriguez hit her 16th home run of the season to put the Rainbows up 3-1 lead. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, Rodriguez connected for her 17th dinger of the year and catapult the Hawaiin team into the national spotlight. Yavapai Head Coach Stacy Iveson commented, “It brought tears to my eyes to see one of our kids perform so well on the big stage. I could not be more proud of Jenna and how she has represented YC at the next level!”
