Roughriders Around The Country

Three members of the 2010 soccer team signed for NCAA Division One soccer programs back east while three others with western schools—

· Michael Moran (Goalkeeper) Niagara University (NY)

· Kyle Woodson (Midfielder) Howard University (DC)

· David Malloy (Forward) University of Rhode Island

· JJ Iles (Goalkeeper) Cal Poly-Pomona

· Joel Mitchell (Defender) Regis University (CO)

· Gabriel Okito (Midfielder) UC-Santa Barbara

Okito will be joining three former Roughriders from Yavapai’s 2008 National Championship Team at UC-Santa Barbara—defenders Chris Hunter and Evan McNiel along with goalkeeper Sam Hayden. By the way, UC-Santa Barbara will be hosting the 2010 NCAA Division One College Cup (Final Four for Men’s Soccer).

In addition to the above mentioned players, other former Roughriders playing soccer this upcoming fall at major universities around the country include—Justin Meram (University of Michigan), Jeff Bendawald (Ohio State University), Ivan Dizdar (Seattle University) and Dirk Petersen (UC-Irvine).

Finally, four former Roughriders are currently on Major League Soccer rosters—Alan Gordan (Los Angeles Galaxy), Roger Espinoza (Kansas City Wizards), Irving Garica (New York Red Bulls) and Joey Gjersten (San Jose Earthquakes). All four moved on the four-year schools after their Yavapai days—Gordon (Oregon State University), Espinoza (Ohio State University), Garcia (UC-Irvine) and Gjersten (Evergreen State University, Washington).
