Baseball Erupts For 30 Runs
The Roughrider offense pushed 30 runs across the plate Tuesday afternoon in a 12-5 and 18-5 sweep over Eastern Arizona College (16-34, 6-26). The offensive output is no surprise as YC leads the ACCAC in batting average (.325) and home runs (22). Yavapai improves to 35-15 overall and 25-7 in the ACCAC hunt. With the victory, the Riders moves into first place by a half game thanks to a Central Arizona College (36-13, 24-7) loss Tuesday to South Mountain Community College (35-13, 23-8), 8-7. Both teams play the second game of a two-game series on Wednesday, April 21st.
In the opener, Dustin Hobbs (10-2) got his 10th victory of the season which ties him for tops in the league. Ty Forney was 3 for 5 with a double and an RBI. Cam Schiller was 2 for 3 with three runs batted in and Cam Brown was 1 for 3 with a 2-run home run his fifth on the year.
In the second game, Alex Miranda (6-2) scattered 9 hits in 4 innings to get the victory. DeMarcus Tidwell and Forney were each 3 for 4. Brown was 2 for 3 with 3 runs scored and an RBI. John Jones was 1 for 2 with a grand slam his fifth home run of the season.
The Roughrider host league contender Central Arizona College on Saturday, April 24th. Both teams split a doubleheader in Coolidge earlier in the year with YC winning 5-4 and CAC winning 3-0. Saturday’s twinbill will begin at 12:00 PM.
