Roughriders Bite The Gila Monsters
The #4 ranked Roughrider softball team remained in first place in the ACCAC battle after a doubleheader sweep Saturday afternoon over Eastern Arizona College (28-22, 15-13), 6-4 and 4-1. YC is now 43-10 overall and 22-4 in ACCAC action.
Audrey Workman got her league leading 23rd win (23-6) of the season as she threw the complete game. The Wickenburg native surrendered 8 hits and struck out 8 Gila Monster batters.
Emily Cooper provided the punch offensively going 3 for 4 with a home run, an RBI and 2 runs scored. Kylie Morin was 3 for 3 with 2 runs batted in and 1 run scored. Molly Brossart and Vanessa House each had 2 hits.
In the nightcap, Alex Landon went the distance from the circle to get her 19th victory of the season. The freshman pitcher struck out three hitters and allowed only 5 hits.
Brossart continued her torrid hitting with three more hits in four attempts. Cooper was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI and Danielle Muniz was 1 for 3 with a home run, 1 run knocked in and 2 runs scored.
Yavapai will be at second place and #12 ranked Pima Community College on Tuesday, April 13th. This will be the first meeting of the year for these two conference rivals. The doubleheader will begin at 2:00 PM in Tucson.
