Baseball Tames The Matadors
The #6 ranked Roughrider baseball team swept a home doubleheader over the visiting Matadors from Arizona Western College Saturday afternoon, 5-4 and 10-7. YC is now 30-14 overall and 20-6 in the hunt for their third consecutive ACCAC title. Yavapai trails league leading Central Arizona College (34-10, 22-4) by two full games.
In the opener, YC got strong pitching from Tyler Bremer and Dustin Hobbs before Pulama Silva came in to pitch the final 1.2 innings to get the victory, his first of the year.
Cam Schiller and Cam Brown were each 2 for 4 on the day and John Jones hit a game tying home run in his only at bat of the day.
In the nightcap, YC used four pitchers with Riley Welch getting the victory in 2 innings pitched. Silva had his hand in the victory as he got his league leading 13th save of the year.
Offensively, long ball was the game the Roughriders played. DeMarcus Tidwell hit his first home run of the year, a grand slam for his only hit of the game. Ty Forney and James Dykstra hit solo home runs and Aaron Fujiki hit a two-run dinger.
YC travels to Tucson on Tuesday, April 13th to tangle with the Aztecs from Pima Community College. In February, Yavapai swept the Aztecs in a home doubleheader, 5-1 and 7-3. Tuesday’s twinbill will begin at 12:00 PM.
