Softball Strands 11 In Loss
The #8 ranked Roughrider softball team split a road doubleheader Thursday afternoon against Central Arizona College. YC won the opener 12-7 and fell in the nightcap 5-4. Yavapai is now 34-8 overall and 13-3 in ACCAC.
The offense was hot in the first game with 6 hitters collecting two or more hits led by Molly Brossart. The reigning ACCAC Division I Hitter of the Week was 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 runs scored, 2 runs batted in and 2 walks. Danielle Muniz and Alex Landon were each 3 for 5 and Ashley Snedeker, Vanessa House and Kirsten Lambertson all had two hits.
Audrey Workman (17-5) worked all seven innings to get her 17th victory on the season. The sophomore right-hander struck out 10 Vaquera hitters, allowed 12 hits and surrendered 3 earned runs.
In the nightcap, the offense hit a wall stranding 11 runners on base. Muniz’ bat remained hot getting two doubles and an RBI. Emily Cooper was 3 for 4 with a home run and two runs scored. House was 3 for 4 and Alex Landon and Kylie Morin each had a hit.
Landon pitched the first five innings and Workman threw the final inning to take the loss (17-6).
Yavapai returns to the field on Saturday, March 27th at Arizona Western College in Yuma. The first pitch will be thrown at 12:00 PM.
