Baseball Edges Gateway

The Roughrider baseball team swept an afternoon doubleheader Friday over the visiting Geckos from Gateway Community College. Yavapai took the first game 4-2 and the nightcap 2-1 in 11 innings. Yavapai improves to 12-6 overall and 6-0 in the conference standings.

Tyler Bremer won his third game of the season in 6 innings pitched. The California native scattered 4 hits and struck out 9. Pulama Silva pitched the final inning to get his sixth save of the year. Ty Forney and Cam Brown got 2 hits on the day and James Dykstra was 1 for 2 with 1 RBI.

The second game took 11 innings to get a result. DeMarcus Tidwell hit a walk-off double to drive in the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning. Casey Upperman got the start on the hill and pitched a stellar 7 and 1/3 innings before giving way to Silva. Parker Markel pitched the final inning to get the victory. Aaron Fujiki was 2 for 2 with a home run, 2 runs scored and an RBI.

Yavapai continues conference play on Tuesday, March 2nd at Eastern Arizona College. The twinbill will begin at 12:00 PM.
