Softball Gets Offensive
The Yavapai College softball team put up 26 runs Friday afternoon at Roughrider Park in a doubleheader sweep of Gateway Community College. Yavapai improves to 16-5 overall and a perfect 6-0 in ACCAC action.
Yavapai blanked the Geckos in the first game 9-0 behind the pitching of Audrey Workman and Christina Hagberg. Chelsea Pineda provide the punch with a grand slam and a double while collecting 5 RBI’s. Vanessa House was a perfect 3 for 3 with a triple and a run scored. Ashley Snedeker and Danielle Muniz each added two hits.
The offense exploded in the nightcap as YC put 17 runs on the board and held the opponent scoreless. Pineda remained hot with 2 more doubles. Muniz, Molly Brossart and Emily Cooper went deep for the home team. Meghan Sommers was a perfect 2 for 2 and Stephanie Harris had 3 RBI’s and Alex Landon was 1 for 1 with a double and 2 runs knocked in.
Landon collected her team leading 8th win from the mound in five innings of work with four strikeouts.
Yavapai continues conference action on Tuesday, March 2nd at Glendale Community College. The first pitch will be at 2:00 PM.
