Softball Sweeps Coyotes
In their home opener Thursday afternoon, the Roughrider softball team swept a doubleheader from Chandler/Gilbert Community College 10-1 and 13-1 to improve their overall record to 11-5 and a perfect 4-0 in ACCAC action.
Offense ruled the day for the Riders as they scored 23 runs, the most scored in a doubleheader this season for Stacy Iveson’s team. Three YC batters had 4 hits: Brittany Keiser was 4 for 7 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI’s; Danielle Muniz was 4 for 6 with 2 doubles, 3 runs scored and 3 RBI’s. Emily Cooper was 4 for 5 with a double, a triple, 3 runs scored and 2 RBI’s; and Vanessa House was 4 for 5 with a double, 2 runs scored and 3 RBI’s. Molly Brossart was 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, 2 runs scored and 3 RBI’s and Alex Landon and Ashley Snedeker were 2 for 3 with a double each and a run scored.
Audrey Workman got the victory in the first game pitching 5 innings, giving up 4 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 9 Coyote batters. Alex Landon and Christina Hagberg combined for the win in the nightcap allowing only 3 hits and 1 earned run.
YC takes a break from conference play to compete in the Cathedral City, CA Kick-off Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Play begins Friday evening against Cerritos College and Citrus College. The first pitch will be at 6:00 PM.
