Softball Wins Two
The defending National Champion Roughrider softball team began the 2010 ACCAC season with a sweep of fellow conference competitor Paradise Valley Community College, 3-0 and 13-6. Yavapai improves their overall record to 9-5 and 2-0 in league action.
Audrey Workman went the distance in the opener to get the shutout victory recording 9 strikeouts and allowing only 3 opponent hits. Offensively, Danielle Muniz and Chelsea Pineda each had two hits. Emily Cooper chased home two runs with a home run and Molly Brossart and Vanessa House each had a double.
In the nightcap, the Roughrider offense exploded for 13 runs. Kylie Morin, Brittany Keiser and Cooper had 4 hits a piece. House added three more hits to her day and Muniz and Alex Landon contributed 2 hits each. Landon got the victory in four innings pitched. Christina Hagberg and Workman took over the pitching duties to finish the Pumas.
Yavapai makes their 2010 home debut on Thursday, February 18th hosting Chandler-Gilbert Community College in a twinbill at Roughrider Park in Prescott. The first pitch will be thrown at 12:00 PM.
