Forney Signs NLI
Current Roughrider baseball player Ty Forney has signed an NCAA National Letter of Intent with New Mexico State University. The Gilbert, Arizona native becomes the the fifth current Roughrider to ink an NLI and the 54th Sky Smeltzer coached player to move on to a Division I program in the last eight years. Forney will play for Head Coach Rocky Ward and former Roughrider head baseball coach and current NMSU assistant coach Gary Ward.
Last season, Forney hit .357 with 13 doubles, 4 triples and 38 runs batted in. The second baseman had a .945 fielding percentage for a team that won their seventh ACCAC championship with a 47-12 overall record.
YC opens their 2010 baseball season January 29th at the Community College of Southern Nevada tournament against Salt Lake City Community College.
