Lady Riders Fall Short Of Upset

After getting pounded by the #6 nationally ranked team Thursday night, the Lady Rider basketball team bounced back Friday night with a near upset of #21 Odessa College Friday night in Texas, 65-61. YC falls to 0-2 on the season with one more game on the road trip.

Yavapai took a 28-25 lead into halftime and relinquished the lead for the first time with 14 minutes remaining in the game. The game saw 8 lead changes and 8 ties with Odessa knocking down two free throws with less than a minute to seal the game. The Roughriders shot 44% from the three-point line but turned the ball over 29 times leading to 31 points for the opponents.

Lerrin Cook led YC with 19 points on 7/10 shooting including 4 for 5 from the three-point arc. Julianne Forte` added 14 points and 5 rebounds. Kiki January chipped in 11 points, 6 assists and 7 steals.

Yavapai concludes the road swing against Howard College Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM. The Riders first home game of the season will not be until November 21st against Phoenix College.
