#15 ranked Arizona Western College beat #5 ranked Yavapai College in the regular season finale 4-0 in Yuma Saturday night but captured their 21st consecutive ACCAC title and the top seed going into next week’s NJCAA Region I Tournament. It was the first time that the Matadors defeated the Roughriders in the 21-year history of the program. Prior to Saturday night’s match, YC held a 41-0-0 record against AWC. Yavapai drops to 16-4-0 on the season and the Matadors improve to 14-4-2.

Arizona Western took a 1-0 lead with a goal 25 seconds prior to halftime and along with two more points in the second half, the Matadors scored the final goal of the game with 35 seconds remaining in the match.

Along with the league title, YC garners a first round bye in the regional tournament. Yavapai opens up the post-season on Thursday, October 29th at Ken Lindley Field at 6:00 PM against the winner of the Pima/Chandler-Gilbert match that will be played on Tuesday afternoon in Tucson. If Yavapai wins their match on Thursday, they will host the championship match on Saturday evening at Ken Lindley Field beginning at 6:00 PM.
