V-Ball Upsets Glendale

The Roughrider volleyball team defeated #11 ranked Glendale Community College at the Storm Center, 25-19, 25-20, 21-25, 25-22. The victory marks the first time that YC has beaten the Lady Gauchos since September 2006. Yavapai remains in the playoff hunt needing only one win in the final two league matches to secure the final spot.

The lady spikers were led by freshman Haley Shackelford with 23 points on 18 kills, 3 aces, and 2 blocks. Sophomore Rachel Lindley scored five points on 3 kills and 2 blocks and led the team with 40 assists. Five players registered 11 digs or more led by sophomore Tialei Agader who had 26 on the night. YC got a season best 12 blocks led by sophomore Jennifer Hess with 4.5. The Roughriders are now 24-13 for the season, 6-5 in ACCAC play.

The Roughriders’ final two conference matches will be played on Friday and Saturday, October 23rd and 24th. South Mountain Community College will be the opponent on Friday evening and the following day, YC will be at Chandler/Gilbert Community College.
