Soccer Gets Defensive

Yavapai College needed a lone goal early in the second half for a 1-0 victory at Mesa Community College Monday night. The Roughriders improve their record to 11-2-0 on the season and Mesa falls to 5-7-1.

In the 51st minute of play, Matt Hazzard found David Malloy behind the opponent’s defense and Malloy found the back of the net from 20 yards out to score the only goal of the game. Malloy’s goal was his league leading 12th on the season.

Yet again, YC got a stellar team defensive effort recording their ninth shutout on the season. Michael Moran was solid in goal as he played all 90 minutes.

Yavapai plays at Scottsdale Community College on Wednesday, October 7th. Kick-off will be at 3:30 PM. In their first meeting of the year, YC beat the Artichokes 3-0. On Saturday, October 10th, the Roughriders will play their 500th match in the program’s history. The opponent will be #5 ranked Phoenix College (9-0-3). The match will begin at 6:00 PM and will be played at Ken Lindley Field in Prescott.
