Volleyball Wins Tournament

The Lady Rider volleyball team captured the San Diego City College Tournament Championship Saturday afternoon winning five of six matches including a victory over fellow conference foe Arizona Western College. Yavapai improves their record to 17-9 overall.

In pool play, YC was 2-1 with victories over Southwestern College, CA, (25-20, 25-10) and Rio Honda College (25-7, 25-12). Santa Barbara City College handed the ‘Riders their only loss in pool play and on the day, 22-25, 25-20, 15-8. YC defeated Santa Ana College in the quarter finals and Arizona Western College in the Semi-finals setting up a rematch with Santa Barbara for the championship. The lady spikers avenged their pool play loss with a victory and the title.

For her efforts, sophomore Jordan Anderson was named to the All-Tournament Team and sophomore Tialei Agader was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player.

Yavapai resumes conference play on Friday and Saturday nights hosting Arizona Western College and Eastern Arizona College respectively. Both matches will begin at 7:00 PM in the Storm Center on the campus of Yavapai College in Prescott.
