Soccer Tosses Third Straight Shutout

The Roughrider soccer team pitched their third straight shutout Wednesday night at Ken Lindley Field over Scottsdale Community College, 3-0. Yavapai has outscored their opponents 10-2 on the season and improves their record to 3-1 overall and in conference play.
The Roughriders scored two late goals in the first half to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. In the 42nd minute Vince Martin received a pass from Jonathan Castro to begin the scoring and Daouda Cisse took a pass from Kyle Woodson and headed it past the goalkeeper with 1 second remaining on the clock before intermission. In the fifty-ninth minute David Malloy added an insurance goal on an assist by Rodolfo Godinez. Yavapai’s two freshmen goalkeepers, James Iles and Humberto Soriano, combined for the shutout.
Yavapai returns to the pitch on Saturday at Phoenix College. The match will begin at 7:00 PM.
